You see that elephant in that picture above? That is Happy the Elephant. In 2006 he made history by proving the intelligence of elephants. Researchers wanted to see if all animal life was self-aware of their surroundings so they ran a test on the Elephants of the Bronx Zoo. Researchers put a white “X” on Happy’s head knowing that he would not be able to see or feel it. They put him in front of an 8-foot long mirror to see how self-aware he was of the white mark on his head. He noticed after looking in the mirror and made history.
His living conditions isn’t that great. He’s on display during the day and when the zoo closes, he is placed in a cage about twice his size. It doesn’t allow him to roam around like elephants do in the wild and interact with other animals to create bonds and friendships. They should not be isolated or else it can lead to loneliness, depression and eventually death. Happy deserves that interaction with other animals and that free space. He needs to be sent to a sanctuary for his social development.
I ask YOU, my followers, page viewers and anyone who sees this to act on to help send Happy to a sanctuary. Make the people of the Bronx Zoo hear your voice and be heard!
Ways to do this:
You can send an email to the Bronx Zoo about your concerns on the link below:

Simply reblogging this would help spread the word around about zoo conditions not only in the Bronx but in the United States.
